Robot vacuums: floors, rugs and dock space
Map the floors you actually have
List hard floors, rugs and rooms. Measure furniture clearance and thresholds. A suction figure alone does not tell you whether a robot reaches a bedroom or picks up the debris you have.
Vacuuming and mopping differ
Check whether the robot drags a pad, uses moving mop pads or controls water delivery. For rugs, look at mop lifting and exclusion zones. Follow both floor-care and equipment instructions for wood or delicate surfaces.
The dock still needs care
Dust emptying, mop washing and drying are different functions. Allow space to open tanks and change bags. Include consumables, filters, brushes and permitted cleaning products in the total cost. An automatic dock reduces chores but still needs cleaning.
Pets and small obstacles
Hair changes brush-maintenance needs. Cables, toys and small objects can require preparation even with obstacle detection. Read the stated limitations instead of treating detection as a guarantee.
Before choosing
Prioritize whole-home access, floor compatibility, furniture clearance and dock care. This guide does not score unverified models. Explore our robot lawn mowers if your next task is yard automation.
